「ボーンズ」と呼ばれる法人類学者の女性を主人公に、現場に残った被害者の“骨”から証拠を見つけ、事件を解決に導いてく姿を描く。原案は法人類学者で作家のキャシー・ライクス。主人公は彼女の著作に出てくる登場人物であり、彼女がモデルとなっている。
